Berkeley Scholars to Cal
Berkeley
Scholars to Cal has an eight-year commitment to provide 75 African
American and Chicano/Latino fifth, ninth, and twelfth grade students
with comprehensive academic and social support. The program provides
each student with 250 hours of direct service per year, including:
• A Black or Latino U.C. Berkeley mentor
• Summer, Saturday and After-school Academies
• Home visits and case management by an African American Cal graduate
Results to date:
• 30% of BSC II students have a 4.0 GPA
• Three quaters have a “B” average or higher are on track for competitive admissions to a top-tier University
• Very few are likely to enter college without BSC support.
The City and School District of Berkeley, Couric, Rogers,
Stulsaft, and West Berkeley Foundations, and numerous private donors
have provided financial support of the program for the last four years.
We are currently seeking additional foundation and donor support for
the remaining four years of the program, and to initiate additional
cohorts.
